Grand Tour – La Deke (Ana Agarp)

July 4 - September 2, 2026

The Grand Tour follows the guidelines of a tourist route that records the visible traces of urban transformation. It focuses on iconic landmarks, businesses, establishments, spaces, and objects located between the center of Madrid and the Vallecas neighborhood.

La Deke (Ana Agarp), with her paintings and altered objects, puts us on the trail of the mutations that the contemporary city is going through; massive influx of tourists, gentrification, disappearance of traditional commerce, strong pressure on housing, substitution of references and progressive loss of the identity of the neighborhoods.

The artist pays special attention to the graphic systems that have historically given character to cities: typography, posters, shop windows and forms of popular communication that are being replaced by a globalized and homogeneous aesthetic.

The adoption of the tourist route format is not merely a narrative choice but rather a reading device that allows us to connect phenomena usually perceived separately and understand them as part of a single process of urban transformation. Presented as stops along a route, the works interpret the usual logic of travel guides. What normally remains out of focus—the changes in the social fabric, the stories that disappear, the displaced people, the traces of a fading collective memory—emerge as the true subject of the observations illustrated in the works.

Although all the pieces reference specific places, Gran Tour speaks to recognizable processes beyond Madrid. The scenarios depicted can be found in numerous cities where life is a dynamic of consumption, speculation, and standardization, in constant growth.

Between reflective observation and irony, the exhibition offers a critical perspective on the new conditions of coexistence in cities. It explores what once was and is no more, the strangeness of everyday gestures; through the paintings and objects, technical skill and figurative beauty are reflected, without losing sight of the human dimension of the processes they document.
