Jasper Nollet
Sculpture
Jasper Nollet (b. 1998, Ostend, Belgium) is a ceramic artist based in Ghent. He initially studied Illustration before turning to ceramics, a medium through which he explores speculative narratives about humanity’s future and its relationship to space and time.
Working at the intersection of archaeology and science fiction, Jasper uses ceramics to translate abstract and cosmic ideas into physical form. His practice reflects on how humanity might envision itself beyond Earth, while grounding these projections in material processes that emphasize duration, tactility, and permanence. He lives and works in Ghent, Belgium.
Statement
My work looks toward the future, imagining humanity’s potential evolution into an interplanetary species. I explore the possibilities and challenges such a transition might entail, not only in terms of technological development, but also in relation to our collective identity and sense of belonging.
A central reference in my practice is the overview effect, the profound shift in perception experienced by astronauts when observing Earth from space. This perspective highlights the fragility and interconnectedness of life, prompting questions about how distance, scale, and context can transform the way we relate to one another and to the planet.
My work unfolds at the intersection of archaeology and science fiction, where remnants of the past coexist with speculative visions of the future. Through ceramic objects, I seek to materialize these ideas in tangible forms, positioning ceramics as a medium capable of carrying both memory and projection, permanence and imagination.
