Painting

Rita Paisana (b. 1998, Lisbon) is a visual artist based in Lisbon. She graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon in 2021. Working primarily with painting, and occasionally with installation, her practice reflects a quiet curiosity about sensation, memory, and the subtle connections between the visible world and the inner, emotional one.

Since 2019, Paisana has presented her work in solo, group, and duo exhibitions. Among her recent projects are: serpentine, solo exhibition at Duplex (2025); Lacrimosa, a site-specific installation at the Roman Theatre – Museum of Lisbon together with Bárbara Faden (2024); Sigh, a duo exhibition with Bárbara Faden in Salto (2024); and Immediate second grade finds in Galeria Avenida da Índia, within the Galerias Municipais de Lisboa program (2023).

Statement

I make abstract paintings that emerge from attentive observation of the world around me and the patterns I perceive within it. I collect visual references such as colors, shapes, and movements that remain in my memory, allowing them to gradually unfold on the canvas through an intuitive process of repetition and layering.

Dreams and memory play an important role in my practice. I am interested in how images and sensations from the subconscious intersect with everyday experiences, and how these encounters can be translated visually. Painting becomes a way of reflecting on what I observe and feel, creating a space where inner impressions and external realities quietly merge.
